Freshwater biodiversity KBA workshop in Marakkech

Fourteen international experts came together in early September in Marakkech (Morocco) for a freshwater KBA review workshop. IUCN in cooperation with BioFresh, MAVA and the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund worked out potential freshwater Key Biodiversity Area's for the southern Mediterranean. Our team spent four days to review the most important of these, especially for their importance for water plants, molluscs, odonates and naturally freshwater fishes. Naturally, we had many very interesting discussions and learned about activities in the area. One day, we took a bus and visited the Oued N’Fiss, one of the KBA's and the globally most important river for Luciobarbus magniatlantis.

Parts of the KBA team looking for freshwater biodiversity at Oued N'Fiss - Luciobarbus magniatlantis was abundant and easy to see.
